Grays Harbor Sports Association - Hoquiam Health Trail

In April of this year, the Foundation awarded a $7,500 grant to the Grays Harbor Sports Association for the Hoquiam Health Trail. Their plan was to address the overall health and activity levels in Hoquiam. They wanted to make it easy for residents to go outside and walk or run on a safe, clean, well-defined, and easily accessible trail. Before the trail, the only areas available were at the Hoquiam High School track (frequently used for school activities) and the Riverside Dike Park/Levee Street trail system.
We recently received this update from Chris Frye on the project: "Well, first of all, without the grant, there is no trail. Second, this trail has allowed for easily accessible daily opportunities for healthy movement in our community. Additionally, the trail allowed for the revival of the Reynvaan Run (an annual Hoquiam event that existed between 1977 and 2019). After a seven-year hiatus, the Healthy Hoquiam 5K Trail made the revival a reality. On December 5th, the trail will host the HoHoHoquiam 5K. The Color Run (a mental health event) will likely utilize the trail next spring for their annual run/walk.
The support of GHCF is huge. Without the Foundation's support, this wellness project never gets off the ground. This is the first of many wellness projects identified for the Harbor (Hoquiam/Aberdeen metro area) and has provided us with tremendous momentum. Thank you!"
