GIVE TO AN EXISTING FUND
The easiest
way to support the work of the Grays Harbor Community Foundation is to
contribute to an existing fund with a purpose matching your philanthropic
interests. While most donors will want to give to one
of the funds listed immediately below, we will happily accept gifts of any size to any existing fund.
FOUR BASIC OPTIONS
Before making your gift, consider what you want your gift to accomplish:
-
If you want to
support our core mission and help meet the broad, long-term needs of Grays
Harbor County, consider a gift to The Fund for
Grays Harbor.
-
If you want to
provide long-term support to the arts and cultural groups active in
Grays Harbor, consider a gift to our Arts &
Culture Fund.
-
If you want to
support the needs of Grays Harbor's underprivileged youth and families, consider a gift to our
Youth & Families Fund.
-
If you want to assist
local students in paying for a college education, consider a gift to our
general Scholarship Fund.
If you have more
specific interests, you may be interested in contributing to one of
the other funds listed below.
OTHER OPTIONS
We can accept gifts to any of the following existing
funds:
-
Wayne Fleury Search & Rescue Fund
Established in 1998 by friends and relatives of Wayne
Fleury, a popular Hoquiam logger who died when his truck struck a bridge over
the Wynooche
River, the Wayne Fleury Fund helps purchase equipment
necessary for search and rescue operations in Grays Harbor County.
-
John Hasbrouck Memorial Junior
Golf Fund
For the purpose of encouraging young people to
learn and enjoy the game of golf, this fund was established in 2000 in
memory of John Hasbrouck, a member of the Grays Harbor Country Club.
It is annually supported by the John Hasbrouck Memorial Two-Man Best Ball
Golf Tournament.
-
Bishop Tours Fund
Established by the E.K. and Lillian F. Bishop
Foundation through the vision of the late Aberdeen attorney Gladys Phillips, this fund provides opportunities for all Grays Harbor students in
grades 4 and 5 to visit a cultural institution of their school's choice.
OMSI, Woodland Park Zoo, Pacific Science Center, Experience Music
Project, and the Washington State Historical Society are all popular choices.
The fund also permits all sixth graders in Grays Harbor County to attend the
Pacific Northwest Ballet's production of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker.
The Bishop Tours Fund provides money for tickets, transportation and meals.
Kathryn N. Sherk Fund
An extraordinary bequest in 2001 from the estate of Kathryn N. Sherk of Aberdeen, a lifelong supporter of the Aberdeen Public
Library, established this long-term fund for the support of capital
improvement projects to the Aberdeen Timberland Library. Friends and supporters of the
library are welcome to add to the fund, which in three years
has begun to make significant improvements to the library's world-class facilities.
Lyle Lancaster Memorial
Scholarship Fund
Lifelong Grays Harbor resident Lyle Lancaster,
owner of a popular gift and hobby shop in downtown Aberdeen, established the
scholarship program of the Grays Harbor Community Foundation through his will.
Donors interested in contributing to the Lancaster Fund will support this
important scholarship program, the fastest-growing and most visible of its kind in Grays
Harbor County.
-
David Spanich Memorial Scholarship Fund
In memory of David Spanich, a 1973 graduate of
Hoquiam High School, this fund provides scholarships to graduates of Hoquiam
High School. Transferred to the community foundation in 2002, the
Spanich Memorial Fund has been continually supported by relatives and friends
of David for thirty years.
-
Novak Family Scholarship Fund
Established in 2002 by the Novak Family of Vancouver,
Washington, to honor Walter B. Novak's Hoquiam roots, this fund provides
scholarships to Hoquiam High School graduates interested in studying
engineering.
-
Wanda S. Ross Fund
In memory of Wanda S. Ross of Aberdeen, this fund
provides a full tuition scholarship to one student per year at the St. Mary
School in Aberdeen.
Other funds held by the Grays Harbor Community
Foundation are less likely to interest unrelated donors. These are mostly
donor-advised
funds established by local individuals and families for their personal
philanthropic interests.
If none of these funds matches your interests, you
may want to establish a new fund.
