FEED THE HUNGRY Every weekday at 1:00 p.m., a long line gathers outside St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen. People come in search of a hot meal. Without asking questions and always with a smile, dozens of volunteers dedicate their time and energy toward serving those in need. Those in line often number more than 100. The Feed the Hungry program has been operated and managed by volunteers for over 18 years. In 2001 this became no longer feasible, and on July 1, 2002, Catholic Community Services assumed responsibilities for the management and administration of the Feed the Hungry Program at St. Mary's in Aberdeen. Volunteers continue to do the bulk of the work preparing and serving food. When it assumed management of the program, Catholic Community Services was unsure of its financial ability to make the transition smooth. In response to a grant request to the Grays Harbor Community Foundation, we helped Catholic Community Services with a $3,000 grant, drawn from a variety of funding sources.
